Malaysia's food scene is famous:
- Nasi Lemak (coconut rice, sambal, anchovies) — national dish
- Roti Canai — flaky flatbread with curry (Indian influence!)
- Char Kway Teow — fried flat rice noodles
- Banana Leaf Rice in Little India, KL (very similar to South India)
- Mamak stalls — open 24/7, serve Indian-Malay fusion food
Getting Around
- KL Sentral is the transport hub — KLIA Express (28 min to airport), LRT, Monorail, KTM
- Grab works everywhere in Malaysia
- Intercity buses are cheap and reliable (KL to Penang: MYR 35, ~₹640)
Malaysian Borneo: Sabah & Sarawak
If you have more time (10–14 days), Malaysian Borneo offers extraordinary wildlife experiences:
- Kinabalu National Park (Sabah, UNESCO): Mount Kinabalu is Southeast Asia's highest peak at 4,095m. Two-day climb with guided permit (~MYR 1,200). Also excellent lower-altitude trails.
- Sepilok Orangutan Rehabilitation Centre: Watch rescued orangutans being fed twice daily in semi-wild conditions — one of the most moving wildlife experiences in the world.
- Danum Valley: Primary rainforest with pygmy elephants, proboscis monkeys, and clouded leopards.
Indian Diaspora in Malaysia
Malaysia has one of the world's largest Indian diaspora populations (about 7% of the country, mostly Tamil). Brickfields (Little India, KL) has Tamil Nadu-style restaurants, temples, and jewellery shops. The annual Thaipusam festival at Batu Caves (January/February) is one of the most spectacular Hindu festivals outside India — over 800,000 devotees.
